Copper is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. Brass composed of copper and zinc is called ordinary brass. If it is a variety of alloys composed of two or more elements, it is called special brass. Brass has strong wear resistance, and brass is often used to manufacture valves, water pipes, connecting pipes for internal and external air conditioners, and radiators.
Ordinary brass is a copper-zinc binary alloy, and its zinc content varies widely, so its room temperature structure is also very different. According to the Cu-Zn binary state diagram, there are three room temperature structures of brass:
1. Copper is an alloy composed of copper and zinc. Brass composed of copper and zinc is called ordinary brass. 2. Ordinary brass is a copper-zinc binary alloy, and the amount of zinc varies widely, so its room temperature structure is also very different. According to the Cu-Zn binary state diagram, there are three room temperature structures of brass:
(1) Brass with a zinc content of less than 35%, the microstructure at room temperature is composed of a single-phase a solid solution, which is called a brass. (2) Brass with zinc content in the range of 36% to 46%, the microstructure at room temperature is composed of (a+β) two-phase, which is called (a+β) brass (two-phase brass). (3) Brass with a zinc content of more than 46% to 50%, the microstructure at room temperature is only composed of phases, which is called brass.
