What Are The Functions Of Gears

2022-04-23

To transmit power, change the speed and direction of movement. Gears are mechanical elements with gears on the rim that continuously mesh to transmit motion and power. Gears have been used in transmission for a long time. At the end of the 19th century, the principle of generating tooth cutting hair began to appear, and then, under the research of people, the theory appeared one after another using special machine tools and tools to cut teeth. With the development of production, the smoothness of gear operation is concerned.

What Are The Functions Of Gears

The working principle of gears is to rely on the meshing between the gear teeth and the chain links to transmit the direction of motion and power. The advantages of gears are high transmission efficiency, large transmission ratio, large transmission torque and long service life. But it also has disadvantages, such as heavy weight, loud noise, small transmission distance, and high friction requiring frequent lubrication. Gears and gear products are important basic parts of mechanical equipment, which play a very important role in the overall power system. It can be said that most of the main transmission components of the current mechanical equipment are gear transmission.

What Are The Functions Of Gears

Gears, as precision parts on machines, have many functions, such as:

1. Gears that set the speed: The gears can adjust the speed of the power. This example is the gears on the engine. Gears regulate power by giving a certain gear ratio. For a motor with a speed of 1400 rpm, the motor speed can be increased or decreased by installing a gear with a ratio of 1:2.

2. Gears that transmit power: The second function is that the gears can transmit power through interconnected gears without causing slippage. You can find this feature on a lathe. The motor in a lathe may not be the spindle that moves the chuck directly. This is why gears are required to transfer from the motor to the shaft when moving the chuck.

3. Gears for changing torque: Torque is the rotational force produced by the engine (for acceleration). Torque can be adjusted by providing gears. As long as the diameter of the gear is larger, the torque produced will be larger (and vice versa).

4. Gears that change the direction of power: In addition to adjusting the speed to change the torque, the gears can also change the direction of the power. It can be found on dam gates or reservoirs. When using the gear to turn the door handle, the door can be turned up and down.
